you and i sat in your basement learning this song before it was even released. you learnt the chords and would look at me while i sang. i can’t hear this song without hearing you mess up the change between the c major and minor. now, i sing the song in my car and cry my way through the verses, chorus and bridge. what a beautiful homage to a lived lesbian experience. chappell roan is a pop princess that will live forever in the spaces that need her; songs like this are living proof of her permanence. i read a comment under the kansas city performance of this song - “crazy how every person singing this song is thinking of a different person.” but for me it will always be you.
