i first heard this album when i was 16, and at the time this was my least favourite song on the record. as i’ve gotten older, i have really come to appreciate how beautiful this song is!

this song is gorgeous from start to finish. joy talks about her experiences of growing up in London, and her family heritage. beauty strings on the bridge and a great melody!

this is my dad’s favourite from this record as it leans slightly more neo-jazz than neo-soul. to think joy crooked wrote this when she was a teenager!

possibly one of my favourite songs of all time. this song is devastatingly beautiful. it opens with some truly gorgeous strings and joys grandma talking about losing someone. as the rest of the song ensues you’re enveloped in beautiful lyrics and melody. timeless and perfect!

a great political anthem about the rise of anti-immigrant ideology in the UK. such a belter of a song with a great melody and great lyrics. very heart felt and inspiring.

the FIFA song is this songs legacy. it started out as a song about political involvement and how to get involved when you’re scared, and now seems to be associated with football. no complaints from me though! great song and i’m glad it’s taken on a new life!
