Still Crazy After All These Years

Still Crazy After All These Years

Ugh. I just love how this whole record sounds. His voice is like butter, always. This track perfectly encapsulates the ache of romance. The whole album is a LIFE album. Perfect for mid-twenties existentialism.

My Little Town

If you’ve ever grown up as an artist (or outsider) in your small hometown (like myself), this is the perfect anthem for you. I love that despite the frustration in “Everything’s the same in my little town”, it’s still HIS little town. It’ll always be home. A little glimmer of light in the desire to flee to the city for bigger, brighter things.

I Do It for Your Love

Oh the things we do for love, eh? The close harmonies make the whole record feel like a discussion with a partner. It’s light but heartbreaking all at the same time.

50 Ways to Leave Your Lover

Possibly my favourite track on the album (closely followed by track 1). I love the perspective on this… the conundrum of figuring out how to deal with a one-sided love. The verses are reflective and emotional, sat in a dim lit kitchen staring at someone you thought you loved but don’t. While the chorus is undeniable, catchy, self-assured, strutting down the pavement in the sun, psyching yourself up in the reflection of a shop window.

Night Game

When looking at the inner sleeve of the physical record, this song is the smallest - both lyrically and arrangement. Just electric guitar, bass and an airy harmonica. A welcome intimate moment on the record where we hear Paul Simon muse on existence and mortality. A perfectly heartbreaking end to side 1 of the album.
