Pleasure Centre find ways to occupy your brain that other music is simply not tuned in to look for. In doing so, an unusually intense feeling is conjured, forcing your brain, out of unpreparedness, to draw upon nostalgia to soothe your discomfort. A medicine of homeopathic aggravation, making things temporarily worse to reveal a fix. In some cases, this method of cure will amplify the feeling as a consequence, rather than provide direct or instant resolution. All that’s left is to press rewind and listen once again.

A track which keeps its finger on the pulse. The vocals and guitar are almost competing to drown each other out, yielding an intoxicatingly pleasant sound somewhere in between harmony and tension. This track in particular is an example of the band’s alchemical power: music which captures a melancholy, puts it through their nuclear generator, and creates a substance which is a direct, aggressive attack on all that subdues. No let up.

Tungsten is cinematic. You can imagine the wind blowing dust across a horizon, the sun barely creeping over the edge, and you, walking towards it, forced to embrace a solitude and reflect on the life which has preceded you. It tugs and tugs, from multiple angles, creating aches in the far reaches of your soul. There’s almost too much, too much to bear. The almost spoken word nature of the vocals at points lends it an even greater narratival credence.
