Meat Is Murder

Rusholme Ruffians - 2011 Remaster

In the early days of this song being performed, its ending was connected to the song This Charming Man. They're not really related lyrically or musically but it's fun. Then towards the end of its run it had an intro added from Elvis Presley's "His Latest Flame" and it's even better. Morrissey's voice pairs well with Elvis', and this song was actually inspired by it. Lyrically it adds a neat other perspective to the love present at the chaos of the scene. Nice song, perhaps drags on too long, but the bass line is phenominal and the acoustic guitar is nice.

I Want the One I Can't Have - 2011 Remaster

Upbeat, fun song. The lyrics are really nice, very honest and relatable haha. I love the part about meeting him in the alley, it's funny Morrissey snuck in that kind of meaning. The lyrics about the mind and the body are a super interesting way to describe the troubles with his sexuality. I can't help but hear part of the melody of This Charming Man at around the midpoint of the song, still the melody is super catchy.

Well I Wonder - 2011 Remaster

This song is so beautiful. Genuinely. From the acoustic guitar, to the on point bass line, the sound of the following rain, and Morrissey's desperate plea to not be forgotten by the one he loves. I can't listen to this one too often, it's too special and emotional. Listening to it just drags me in to a whole other plane. I agree with their decision to not attempt this one live as it wouldn't truly capture the beauty of it.

Barbarism Begins at Home - 2011 Remaster

Andy Rourke's bass line of this song is just so funky wow. And it's a very complex one, so imagine playing it for this long. I love Morrissey's barking, and the guitar is just so good. Everything about this song is chaotic, funky, and weirdly encapsulating of the violence of this song's lyrics. I can't help but dance to this, even if it is perhaps a little too long. I highly recommend checking this song's live performance though. The rougher sounding guitar hits harder, along with Morrissey's barking. It's extra funky here and in some cases Johnny even improvises a bit here. Sometimes they'd try to play this song extra long (like even double the length of the original), sometimes pretty fast, and I just don't get tired of it. Also love it whenever Morrissey and Johnny start dancing together to Andy and Mike's playing at the end. They look like they're having so much fun, you can even see Andy smile and laugh at it.
