The Queen Is Dead

The melody is phenominal here. Seriously, Johnny Marr did such a good job here it's so rich and complex. I love the lyrics about the "pillow". Don't let this song's otherwise simple lyrics deceive you though, it's a mockery of the way men speak about women in such a stupid, objectifying way. I can understand why Johnny was upset at first hearing them though haha.

Oh this song is really depressing, and it hits very close to home. Brutally honest lyrics that are beautifully told. The melody truly drowns in the sorrow and inevitability. I love the Live in Boston performance. Jeff Buckley did a nice cover of it too. Curious that this song, that brings up letting go of loving someone who gets married, was written only 2 months after Johnny got married. Just saying... "It takes strength to be gentle and kind."

This is a really lovely song, very romantic sounding. The guitar and strings blend nicely and I love the melody. I love the metaphor it has for gay love, even if Morrissey will lie to the press and say some crap like it's about how the press doesn't believe his lyrics. It's reminiscent of their song Hand in Glove. "How can they see the love in our eyes and still they don't believe us? And if they don't believe us now will they ever believe us?"

This is a classic, truly beautiful song. Great use of strings with a catchy guitar melody. The song puts together this romantic scenery of a car ride (Morrissey seems to have a thing for this like in This Charming Man or You've Got Everything Now), and the part with the underpass had a such a fitting sound to it, it's so cohesive. Really romantic even in its dark humor, but the crashing into a double-decker bus is just so iconic. It amazes me how Morrissey can sing such memorable scenery and phrases in these songs. It absolutely deserves to be this famous.
