The Long Way Home
The Long Way Home
I wrote the long way home when Gus Benson reached out to me and offered me a free session. I had just sent over the demos for my debut EP to my producer Mike Davidson, and was quite literally fresh out of music. I told Gus, give me a few days and I'll see what I can do. Three days later, The Long Way Home was born. It feels like a bit of a divergence from the rest of my work; softer, more palatable - who I'd like to be instead of who I am intrinsically.
As I do, I wrote this song about multiple things, pulling from several lived experiences to create this soft ballad depicting the moments right after the emotional climax, the one moments where you sit with it and hope it doesn't end.
Gus and I pulled inspiration from Lizzy McAlpine, Jensen Mcrae, and Aimee Mann.
