Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus decided to start a band before they’d been in the same room.

Phoebe and Julien met on tour; Lucy opened one of Julien’s shows. One song for a joint tour in 2018 turned into a group chat, and they became a band over texts and emails. In four days at Sound City in Los Angeles they recorded six songs, their first EP. The name was their joke about men told they were geniuses since birth.
