Retired Boxer
Its last song was later covered by Wilco and Beck.
Johnston made Retired Boxer at the end of 1984, the year he was handing his tapes to customers at McDonald’s in Austin. It was another home cassette, copied by himself. He recorded its closing song, True Love Will Find You in the End, again for the album 1990. Wilco, Beck and the Flaming Lips are among those who have played it.
