Mazzy Star

Hope Sandoval joined Mazzy Star after a friend handed David Roback her demo tape backstage.

Sandoval sang in a folk duo, Going Home, with Sylvia Gomez, who gave the tape to Roback after a Rain Parade concert. He was then in Opal, and when its singer, Kendra Smith, left during a tour, Sandoval took her place. The pair renamed the band Mazzy Star. They made three albums in the 1990s, then nothing until Seasons of Your Day in 2013. Roback died in 2020.
