Year of the Cup
this album is one of the rare 10/10s for me. i love how porter contrasts the poppy sounds of the instrumentals with lyrics regarding really dark subject matter like suicide, loneliness, parasocial relationships, and other stuff. it’s such an interesting project, and i’d honestly consider it as a concept album, though i don’t know if that’s actually the truth (though i also don’t care). anyways, this album really changed my outlook on life (this is not an exaggeration) and it really means so much to me. it only came out two years back, but it really feels timeless, and i come back to it often, especially when things get hard, which is a lot since life’s a rollercoaster, or something like that. the storytelling on this track in particular interlaced with the interview samples which promote the idea of not really caring what others think and instead focusing on yourself are so poignant, and it’s something that i’ve had to learn in my life (it’s taken a while, but maybe i’ll talk about that some other time). anyways, the concessions line is long, and i’m supposed to be managing this ship (theater), so that’s all i’ll say about that. don’t forget to smile! :D thanks.
