  1. ?Bassvictim · 2026 Sometimes I believe in God (Sometimes I believe in Me) “life be like ):(:( and that’s ok.” that’s what the first image in bassvictim’s spotify bio says, and they have a few other fairly profound quotes littered throughout their bio (for example, another is “take a chill pill listen to some bass or something.), but this one is probably the most relevant to this song. the wavering between believing in yourself and believing in a higher being is something i consistently struggle with. i was expected to be catholic when i was a kid, and my grandma made me attend bible school as an ADHD-diagnosed elementary schooler, at a time in my life when i could barely sit still in class topics i was actually interested in. it went about the way you’d expect, and they kicked me out of the group study after a few weeks and placed me into one-on-one study, to which i don’t remember much except polishing shoes one time (i don’t remember if it was something i enjoyed doing or if it was a punishment), or maybe it was twice. i don’t believe in god anymore because when you suffer and everyone else suffers so much around you and even not around you when they’re 3,000 miles from you, how could you? do you know what i’m talking about? does that make sense? i think it’s nice that people have something to believe in though. one of my friends who i learned python with a little while ago is devoutly christian, and she has a lot of wisdom and optimism on problems, more than i have for the most part (at least in terms of optimism). one time, i told her about one of the screenplays i was working on which involved someone trying to convince someone else to sacrifice him to satan, for whatever reason (maybe i’ll elaborate on it some other time), but she wasn’t a very big fan of it and it made me sad that she couldn’t take herself out of her christian shoes for a moment and look at it from a creative perspective. i’m not a christian, but i’m also not a satanist. she accused me of promoting violence, but really i was trying to portray the desensitization towards it, but whatever. visionaries are usually misunderstood (i’m not a visionary). anyways, sometimes, at my weakest moments, when i sit in my car without starting it (because i don’t have the means to waste gas for heat (especially now because gas is so expensive)) so that i can lament for a little bit, i’ll talk to god, but it’s a one-sided conversation, if you could consider it a conversation at all. i’m mostly yelling at him and cursing him out, but it makes me feel good at the end of everything, so maybe prayer’s worth that’s at the very least. so the title here is relevant, because sometimes i believe in myself, in my own capabilities, and my abilities to get me to one of the greatest places in the world (though it’s debatable nowadays), and i don’t need a god to yell at but then sometimes i believe in god, just so that i can yell at him for a little while. it’s nice. i wonder if this is a loophole of any sorts that will eventually get me into heaven. i hope not. anyways, the sample in this song is fire and it’s something for me to yell in polish when i’m playing it (though i don’t know any polish whatsoever (i think i knew someone who was polish one time though; maybe my pediatrician? (no, i think she was russian but i could be wrong? i don’t know))) and the drops are so fucking cathartic. this is definitely one of the songs i’m gonna be playing on my tower speakers whenever i go home. i don’t know when that is yet. i’ll find out eventually. thanks.
  2. Chasing Moving TrainsRoy Blair · 2024 Garden two years ago today, roy blair dropped his sophomore studio album, ‘chasing moving trains’, and it was the same day in which i had to drive down to virginia during the single-digit hours of the night, to visit my dying grandmother. i could say a lot about that weekend, but i’d rather focus on this album. i got to listen to it for the first time in complete blackness, with just me and the open road and the silhouettes of trees passing at 70 miles an hour to the left and the right of me and it felt magical. this song in particular means so much to me. it’s a 9 minute long song, the longest track in roy’s discography ever, and the chorus of the song has such gut-wrenching, blunt lyrics, those being “i’m sorry but i’m looking out for myself now”. the entire song is an introspective look on learning how to live with yourself after everything one’s been through, at least that’s the way i look at it, and i had to learn this lesson during my weekend in virginia. i cried to this song on the way back up, and i cried to this song a year later too, simultaneously a year ago now, when roy played the entire album front to back, his first live performance in a longer time than i had been a fan. it’s such a beautiful song, and this is such a beautiful album. roy is such a versatile artist, and i think that this is the pinnacle of his career, at least for now. i can’t wait to see what he delivers whenever he does decide to deliver again. thanks.
  3. Geese Getting Killed Au Pays du Cocaine i swear i was on geese before everyone!!!! i ‘discovered’ geese the spring before my first semester of college, when i was still rummaging around instagram posts to find a potential roommate (i never found a good one, and so i got stuck with two randos, one of which would slam his wooden drawers shut while searching for the da vinci code or something equivalent to that at 3 in the morning (sometimes i would lock him out of the room during that time, when he’d leave (and slam the door) to go and take a shower, because i’m petty like that) but he bought me a matcha latte one time, and even though i don’t like matcha, i finished it all just to show that i appreciated the gesture). during one of the final conversations i had with one potential roommate on instagram during this spring (he ended up ghosting me after this, as he did a bunch of other people from what i’ve heard (sometimes i see him in the dining halls and i get a little annoyed because like what did we all do to deserve the ghosting, and who are you to ghost us in the first place, right?), he mentioned geese and i put 3d country on my tower speakers and enjoyed what i heard and geese became my 9th most listened to artist ever, at least for now. now we’re here, and i jump around their discography, because it’s all pretty good (i mean, they’re critically acclaimed, and on this app too, of all places). yesterday was getting killed day, and it’s funny because i nearly did get killed while listening to this song. i cross roads on the crosswalk, and i gauge if the person barreling their car towards me has enough time to stop, and usually i’m right because i’m smart, and even in this scenario i was right because i’m smart, but this asshole decided to keep barreling towards me while grinning at me like some kind of cheshire cat that was going to run me over with his car and i wasn’t going to speed up to get to the other end of the crosswalk, because why should his daddy’s jeep matter more than me crossing the street, right?, and so i continued walking at my same pace, ready to get hit by a car and show this guy that this pedestrian is the boss because i’m petty like that, until his ABS kicked in right at the foot of the crosswalk and he stopped grinning. it would’ve been a funny way to get killed, getting hit by a car, because cars are one of my mortal enemies, but at the very least, i’d have gotten killed listening to the best song off of this album. i’m alright. thanks.

  2. rom com 2004Soccer Mommy i really love the production on this track. every few months, the chorus pops into my head and i can’t get it out until i listen to the full song a few times. i really like the cutesy instrumental contrasted with the gritty almost glitch-like sounds. it kinda reminds me of silver by a.g cook with the way the two are interlaced throughout the song (a.g cook’s song has more star wars lasers contrasted with synth pop, but the point still stands). i think kero kero bonito did a remix for this track if i recall correctly, but i don’t, and that means it’s either forgettable or worse than the original (i find that usually this is the case for remixes; if a featuring artist wasn’t contacted for the original song, they probably were never in mind for its creative vision in the first place, but so be it), which stinks since i really like kero kero bonito. maybe i’ll post about them sometime. they have a few good songs, but i can’t distinguish how many a few are because i’m an english major, and everyone knows english majors don’t know numbers. at least i don’t. thanks.
  3. TEXAS BLUEQuadeca i can’t believe quadeca predicted the future. it’s wokevember, y’all, or something like that from what i saw on instagram. i don’t listen to this album from quadeca all that much. it’s a lot less congealed than other projects from him like vanisher or i didn’t mean to haunt you. this doesn’t necessarily mean that it isn’t good, because it is good, but compared to the rest of his discography, it feels like a misplaced blip of b-sides (the b-sides are good regardless, kind of like with tame impala). the piano on this song is nice and the climatic instrumentation at the end is as well. i can’t help but feel that this song is overshadowed by better songs on this project though like guide dog, or pretty privilege (or shit, even dustcutter (i saw dustcutter live one time, a few hours after meeting quadeca (i have a folder on my phone labeled “meeting new people” now because of that, but there’s only two pictures in yhere (him and the frontman from lip critic)), and it was pretty cool to see; overall, that show was pretty cool to see) i remember when texas blue was announced (this song, not the midterm results), everyone chronically online went batshit crazy that kevin abstract was collabing with quadeca but to be honest, i didn’t care all that much. kevin abstract is fine on here, i guess. i find that his projects are generally underwhelming compared to what someone with his creativity could actually achieve. he makes really cool stuff sometimes, and then other times, he doesn’t, or he ends up working with nine vicious (y’all hear cracker? don’t even get me started). anyways, happy wokevember and i can’t wait for demcember and liberapril. thanks.

  6. Mr. SandmanThe Chordettes happy halloween! :) thanks.
  7. Year of the CupPorter Robinson this album is one of the rare 10/10s for me. i love how porter contrasts the poppy sounds of the instrumentals with lyrics regarding really dark subject matter like suicide, loneliness, parasocial relationships, and other stuff. it’s such an interesting project, and i’d honestly consider it as a concept album, though i don’t know if that’s actually the truth (though i also don’t care). anyways, this album really changed my outlook on life (this is not an exaggeration) and it really means so much to me. it only came out two years back, but it really feels timeless, and i come back to it often, especially when things get hard, which is a lot since life’s a rollercoaster, or something like that. the storytelling on this track in particular interlaced with the interview samples which promote the idea of not really caring what others think and instead focusing on yourself are so poignant, and it’s something that i’ve had to learn in my life (it’s taken a while, but maybe i’ll talk about that some other time). anyways, the concessions line is long, and i’m supposed to be managing this ship (theater), so that’s all i’ll say about that. don’t forget to smile! :D thanks.
  8. Pile! No Pile! Pile!Brave Little Abacus the first time i listened to this album, i was pretty indifferent towards it. i had it blaring on my tower speaker setup back at home during the near-summer, and i didn’t see the appeal to it but apparently, somewhere along then and now, it grew on me because now it’s in my top 20 most listened to albums on stats.fm. the band themselves don’t like to be described as midwest emo, even though it’s a complete contradiction of their sound with the whiny vocals, the heavy guitars and the dude in the background slamming on the drums (holy fucking shit). when i grow up and make my own band which will happen, because i have the power to make anything i say happen, the band will be a brave little abacus cover band, and we will tour the world until my laryngeal nerve tears apart like in that story about galen and the squealing pig (though i don’t think it was the pig’s choice to have that happen to it in that case). i can’t help but scream along to this song if there’s nobody around me that i care about but lately i’ve been around a lot of people that i care about (though i constantly say i wouldn’t take a bullet for many people, but the truth is, there are a lot of people i would take a bullet for,) and so that is very good. this is one of my favorite openers ever because i think it sets up the rest of the album’s sound perfectly, and the final lyrics of this song come back around on the last song. i love circles, they’re my favorite shape. i also love malcolm in the middle, it’s my favorite show. i think it’s cool that it’s sampled here. one day, bryan cranston will die and i will be a very, very sad man but that day is not today. sir patrick stewart died today though. rest in peace. thanks.
  9. Me vs. MothraPaulie Swan in the spirit of swans coming tomorrow (or really in 5 days, now), i wanna post about this album which feels like cameron winter if he was british and had a little more life to him (not that cameron winter doesn’t have life; it’s just that cameron winter’s songs are sad and these songs are more melancholy). i found this EP while driving foreigners back to a hotel from a water park because i’m a very charitable person (i’m being sarcastic, though i try to be nice on occasion) and because i had nothing else to do. they’d take pictures of me while i drove, and they made cardboard cutouts of me and of them, and we’d hold hands with our little cardboard feet wedged in between the metal grates where they stored their sunglasses. anyways, i miss them a lot and i miss my hometown sometimes but then i think about my mom and i don’t miss it all that much. i’ll have to visit china one day to see them and i hope we can make little cardboard versions of ourselves there too. i think about them sometimes when i play this EP, and all the other music i introduced them to during that summer. i’m not sure if they actually liked any of it but they always said they did. thanks.
  10. Flash MountainDjo i’d like to affirm my spot as an og djo listener even though i didn’t start listening to him until a few months before he dropped decide, at least according to stats.fm (i’m pretty sure i knew of djo before this though, it’s just that my old spotify account got hacked because i’m really bad at avoiding typing in my information when someone sends me a phishing attempt). anyways, this is personally my favorite album by him. i just really like the psych rock sound of this album; it has just slightly more charm than decide and compared to the crux (which to be honest, isn’t all that memorable for me), a lot more charm. maybe i’ll revisit that one someday, since djo’s whole discography is fairly solid after all. anyways, this song is my favorite off here. it’s really leaning into that psych rock element that i was talking about earlier. also, it’s just really catchy and is arguably the highest-hitting climax that this album has to offer. the riffs on here are powerful along with the backing crystalline synth lines and it just paves the way for a very fun song to listen to. it has a sick ass guitar solo too, which every album like this needs. let’s rock. thanks.
