The Loan
i got to see this song performed live at a whopping 105 decibels on memorial day weekend this year. i shoved my phone in my pocket with a voice memo running while like two hundred bodies slammed into me from the back (i was at the very front) and people jumped from the foot high stage to stage dive and their fingertips touched the low ceiling as they floated across the crowd, and someone cute took off his shirt (i won’t say who). anyways, this was the most cathartic live music experience i’ve ever had and i had to drive three hours up just to see it and then three hours down just to get home in the same night but it was all worth it, even if it was incredibly exhausting. i met the entire band after that show and they signed my vinyl and now it’s hanging in my room back at home and it’s my most prized possession along with my signed beach house vinyl (i bought that one as a graduation gift for myself, and it’s even authenticated). anyways, i tried to play this song at the food truck the other night, because a) lip critic is my favorite band and b) i had just met the frontman’s mom and sister at my second job a day earlier, from nothing more or less than a coincidence (the sister was wearing a lip critic hoodie and i just had to point it out because i never know when to keep my mouth closed (if that’s a crime, i’m guilty)). all eight hundred people in the truck judged me really hard for this song (they usually judge me pretty hard for my nicher takes, and this is most definitely one of my nicher takes) and i practically got kicked off aux, but that’s okay because we ended up putting on phil collins for the rest of the night after that. phil collins is pretty good too, i guess. never got to see him live though. thanks.
