  1. Blackest EyesPorcupine Tree Some bands just sound right to you. Even before you like a specific song, the sound just hits the spot. This album has some of the cleanest sounding instruments ever. And they went further on an impeccable run, following it up with Deadwing and Fear of a Blank Planet.
  2. Dream BrotherJeff Buckley Exceedingly rare in music when the vocals become an instrument and the guitar sings. They don’t cut through each other, they are beautifully intertwined as one. The musical arrangements are heady. Breathtaking compositions. Intoxicating from start to finish.
  3. All My Happiness is GonePurple Mountains I met this song at a fairly happy time in my life. The universe has been kind to me. Yet some days, in moments of silence, that knot deep down makes itself felt, when the futility of it all is too tangible. This song is a warm hug at those times. In spite of the lyrics, it is comforting. Thank you for your poetry and RIP David Bernam.
  4. Fourth of JulySufjan Stevens Devastating. Uplifting. Makes you want to love. Makes you want to write to your loved ones. Witness the meditation of an artist upon his memories. And when the artist is as sensitive and beautiful as Sufjan, it makes for an intense experience.
  5. ChicagoSufjan Stevens Makes you nostalgic for places you have never been. I have memories of doing things I never did with a lost love I never had, just from listening to this album. 20 years later, still fresh as ever. An experience that would last you a lifetime.
