Debut solo album by Chilli Jesson, formerly of Palma Violets and these days touring guitarist with Fontaines D.C. Album’s a bold statement of guitars, anthemic choruses, with a sleepier, hazier alternative bend that draw on electronic influences as well as classic songwriting and layers of acoustic and shoegazing electric guitars, tied together by the occasional Beatles-influenced melody and harmony, and slice-of-life lyrical vignettes, which is where the album shines brightest.

Album opening track Only Just Begun - Beatles-esque songwriting and beautiful melody work updated with a daring touch of noisier guitars. When Jesson gets this combination right,

Guitar melodies shine through on songs like Volatile Child. Teenage reflections

Humming Wires - more chaotic track with big, reverberating drums that could easily be on his semi full time band Fontaines D.C.’a last album Romance. Filthy, glitzy bassline, but is a bit whiny.

Running Out Of Gas - feisty little post punk tune that opens up into delicate guitar harmonies over more frenetic beds of aggressive acoustic strumming and that’s what this album does best.

Big choruses on That’s Life - swaggering, almost a bit Imagine Dragons in its scale.

Lead single - standout track Don’t Blame The Son for the Sins of the Father - similar swaggering Twenty Piløts like song, produced by Carlos O’Connell from Fontaines D.C., whose influence comes through on the screaming synths.

Album closer Need You So Bad - hazier, dreamlike romantic and layered tune.
