Tiny DemonsBabeheaven This EP is a gorgeous lullaby
Lord, Let That Tesla CrashCMAT Incredible songwriting. CMAT made this deeply emotional song about a friend she lost. She has a very unique voice and style to her music, and this track shows her skill as it really makes you feel the bond she had with this person. Irish musical talent at its finest
AwakeDjo Very different to the rest of his music, but a very important song in my opinion. I interpret it as a sort of epiphany, he’s finally becoming self-aware of things around him and specific events in his past. It’s very poetic, and it draws you in across a couple minutes. You’re pulled deep into his train of thought, then the song explodes in this epic revelation: “I’m awake”.
24hr DogFKA twigs This song feels straight out of a blade runner movie. One of my favourites off the album. As freaky as the lyrics may come across, the sound is very smooth and relaxing
EusexuaFKA twigs FKA Twigs created an entire word for this album: Eusexua. “A state of pure presence, a body high, or a rush of mental elevation and mental clarity—such as losing track of time while dancing all night in an underground club, kissing someone, or feeling a sudden, deep surge of creative passion.” It’s her attempt to encapsulate the world of electronic music and paints a picture of the club scene - from her experience. The lyrics are just as key as the wild production. There’s not many Twigs songs in my library, but whenever she releases music, I listen. Her creative journey for this album is so interesting, and her talent to create something entirely unique always makes me press play.
Harvest MoonNeil Young Such a beautiful song, sounds so delicate but the feeling he portrays is intense and long-lasting
Full of FireAl Green Listening to Al sing about someone he loves, you can’t help but feel warm and happy. An incredible artist who gets all kinds of grooves and riffs stuck in your head
Cherry-coloured FunkCocteau Twins It’s amazing to see this band get a spike in popularity lately. Gen Z appreciate the sound and feelings of a song more than lyrical content. Lyrics are important, yes, but Cocteau Twins don’t need them to be understandable to take you into their dreamscape
Still Ill - 2011 RemasterThe Smiths The Smiths were actually banned in my house growing up. So many people complain about Morrissey’s voice, but I think it’s exactly his singing which helps these songs feel so raw and honest. People in the 80s were in their feelings
