- Pretty (Ugly Before)Elliott Smith I can’t really put the feeling of this song into words, or rather adjectives. But this song is like lighting the last camel blue on a shitty day in which you just hate yourself, but by the end of the cig ur mentally reset and u can only smile and think a bout crushing a season of south park while you fall asleep.
- ShytownPete Krebs Underrated folk masterpiece. Holds that Portland sound. Also the acoustic rings with that warm tinny sound.
- A Shaggy Dog Shames its OwnerKind of Like Spitting This track kinda is outright blatant with its meaning. The departure of a father figure, with the hole he leaves being filled with hope or religion. But like any other emo song, there’s the sense for longing. I think it’s just that religion doesn’t fill that hole. Religion in a sense is just a form of hope - a strong systemic form of hope that leaves the narrator kinda stranded because of the unfulfilling nature of this hope. The song ends with him wanting to leave which is common theme recurring throughout the whole album. This album is sumn I often look to really escape the noise of the world, but the singer is just talking about how he wants to run away too.
- Out of Harm's Way....FinallyKind of Like Spitting The opening calmness reflects the bitter calmness one holds in the toxicity of a failing relationship. The development of the song reflects this manner. I think the first part of the song kind of reminds me of the end of fall, in which the cold air has a sharp sting yet it still gets followed by a cool breeze. The tipping point is this fantastic “scream” of angst. That scream marks the end of the relationship , where all those Fuckass feelings really come to burst from its fruition. It’s like the strong blizzard that hits reminding you what winter comes with and is. I just love this song in ways I can’t put words lol.

Longform on No Name No. 5 M.I.L.E.S. (Man I Love Elliott Smith) revisiting Either/Or One of the most overlooked tracks on Either/Or stands as a stark contrast to the rest of the tracks harmonically. This song, unlike the other tracks, utilizes many dissonant clashes between chord changes. It envelopes a feeling of something that is lost - an anxiety that does not rest. As the guitar starts the song,… 4 min read
