Where Is Gone?Fontaines D.C. Just walked out of the Oslo Fontaines D.C show with (verified Rhune user) Derran. It was incredible we have had a great night they played all the songs you would want them to. Definitely going to have this one stuck in my head for the next week. What a show. What an album. What a band.
We Will Not Be Lovers - 2006 RemasterThe Waterboys This is a special band to me, my Scottish Dad introduced them to me at a young age when I was younger a folk rock band didn’t sound very cool but as I get older they come to me like a warm blanket, not only do they sound great but to this day I’ve never heard another band exactly like them, many similar but none quite the same. I’m going to go have a cup of tea with my dad.
Emperor XIII in Shades - Live at Carnegie HallCameron Winter It’s taken me a little while to get to the core of my thoughts on this album and I still feel like I haven’t fully taken it in. The way in which feelings of despair, sadness and loneliness are distilled by Cameron Winter on this album are special, the lyrics are corse, effortless, beautiful it feels like we’re watching a one in a generation songwriter be birthed right in front of us. Musically it has a unique blend of old American trail music, Leonard Cohen, and of course Nina Simone, with profound (and profane), passionate performances. I’m not kidding this time, I wouldn’t joke about this. AOTY for sure.
Good Will HuntingBlack Country, New Road Such a heavily driven riff and percussion on this song, the lyrics are as always from bcnr sad and expansive, the album is no skips as is but for me good will hunting will always stand out among the many as a masterpiece.
Look For MePaul Stephan Grime scene is dead but this new wave of lowfi rap that’s coming out of London is exciting that being said novelist has been doing it for years but you get what I mean.
Place To BeNick Drake While everyone else is out partying for Halloween I’m at home sleepy af putting in reps listening to nick drake Huss Huss (This might be my favourite song of all time) Enjoy your night out Derran every day your not training I gain the advantage
I Wanna Be Adored - Remastered 2009The Stone Roses Somehow this album harkens back to the 60s, coming out in 1989 informed the next two decades of rock music AND can still be heard in artists today such as Fontaines DC an all-timer for sure. Derran I hope today was kind to you
Like a TattooSade This album is incredibly rich sounding, textured and full on. Luckily, Sade’s capable hands steer this album away from being completely overwhelming to becoming a gorgeous classic with endless replayability. Truly one of the greatest albums ever made. Derran I am in your walls
JoyNick Cave & The Bad Seeds A magical song/album that ultimately recognises that joy in a way is suffering, to think that most of this album is improvised and one take is crazy. At this point Nick Cave’s 50+ year career has touched so many audiences if you don’t know, get to know. Derran check under your bed
